Conquer Karaoke

Conquer Karaoke is a vocal workshop where students learn to rock the mic while singing their favourite karaoke tunes. Each performance is followed by feedback and coaching from Vocal Sensei Carolyn Thompson. This is where you apply and put to practice the voice and performance techniques you learned in your private 1-on-1 lessons. It's the perfect opportunity to hone your vocal skills while conquering stage fright! Every class will have a new theme! "Sing like nobody's watching" in a warm and friendly environment.

YouTube or instrumental track:

purchase and download a clean instrumental track (in your key) at karaokeversion.com or choose a free instrumental/karaoke video on You Tube
you may use your phone/mp3 player or send your tracks/links to carolyn@vocaleuphoria.com prior to class
tracks must be instrumental/background music only (no lead singer)

Please do not use any you tube videos labelled "Karafun". They always have very faint lead vocals.

It's recommended that you memorize your songs

How to memorize a song ...FAST!

Write out the lyrics while listening to the song without looking at the words.
Trust yourself and sing it once without looking at the lyrics (turn the sheet over)
Allow yourself to make some mistakes.
When you are done singing it once, pick up the lyrics and look for the spots where you forgot the words.
Sing it again without looking at the lyrics (turn the sheet over)
Repeat this process until all the words are memorized

You will be surprised how fast the lyrics and the rhythm sink in!

Now find a karaoke track or pick up your favourite instrument and sing along

Themes can be interpreted in so many ways!

it can be a word in the song or...
the song can be about the theme topic or...
the theme reminds you of a song or...
the song implies the theme

Be creative but keep it simple 🙂

Carolyn Thompson is a TEDx speaker, a singer and vocal performance coach. She also happens to rent office space at The... Workaround. I’ve heard Carolyn with her students, so as I struggled this week to get the tone and pacing of my talk right, I asked to hire her for an hour. I figured even though I don’t need formal acting lessons to give a presentation, simply running through my talk with a pro would be a good use of time.WELL. Here is a story of me going in with not many expectations and being totally blown away by talent. It’s a wonder why Carolyn isn’t booked up for months. In just 45 minutes not only did she give me tools for memorization that actually stuck in my brain, but she taught me skills I had never heard of before. And I give talks A LOT. I thought I knew what I was doing. But I was WRONG.I have a better understanding of how to not jumble my words, to punch consonants and breathe correctly. I understand what it means to present confidence and really feel your words. Carolyn did that for me. I repeat, IN ONE SESSION. I had to hire her again this week so I could get even better at perfecting my delivery.If you are preparing for a talk, even virtually, I HIGHLY recommend a virtual hour with Carolyn. She brought my talk to the next level. I am more confident for filming than I ever was, and this is saying a lot given I’ve been in lockdown with two sick kids and solo parenting and trying to manage a business from home. I was sure I’d be screwing this whole thing up. But Carolyn truly helped me, beyond what I thought, and I was reminded to ditch the whole "I'm an expert and have got this" ego. I look after my daughter's young band, Lightning the Band. A group of shy youngsters with a serious love of music. Wow!Simply WOW!As an entertainment photographer I was invited to shoot a couple of classes.During my career as an... entertainment photographer, I have seen hundreds of singers in bands, solo artist, spoken word as well as A Capella.I have always admired someone stepping up in front of an audience, and have a deep appreciation for talent. After so many shows/performances, I believe I am good at spotting true talent over forced. Those who are at ease over those struggling to stay on stage.Since being able to witness first hand what it takes to truly perform vocally, I am now so much more aware of the effort put in by performers since attending these classes. I have personally witnessed Carolyn's coaching and suggestions, and have seen much improvement in those students who have taken to heart her lessons.I believe Carolyn to be not only a thorough instructor, but sensitive and observing of each individual she works with, pinpointing exactly that which could use some work, while at the same time uplifting and praising that which the student already has.Should I ever be so inclined to put my own voice on the line, it is good to know I have a friend in Carolyn who will most certainly help me bring out my best. I purchased a class with Vocal Euphoria as a Groupon gift for my mother. When she attempted to call Vocal Euphoria, a... woman answered and wound't let my mom book a class until she had told her the "goals" of taking a signing class. My mom answered it was a gift from her daughter and it was just for fun, she didn't understand anything about goals. The woman was incredibly difficult. My mother has an accent, and there was no attempt to understand. My mom had to call a second time, and the woman remembered the first conversation. She then refused to book my mom because my mom didn't display enthusiasm for the class. This has been the worst Groupon experience, and a terribly sour turn for what was supposed to be a fun Christmas gift. Just awful to be refused service, especially as my mom is shy about singing and this was supposed to bring her out of her shell. Why offer Groupon experiences if you are not willing to accommodate beginners and those exploring what singing is about? I would not recommend based on awful customer service.read more
