You sing or speak and get coached on it in the moment. Then you try again, and find out it wasn’t that bad and it wasn’t that hard.
In the MasterClass, “performer” means singers, speakers, presenters, rappers, spoken word artists, actors, comedians and storytellers. Your piece may be a song, a rap, a speech, a presentation or pitch, a spoken word piece, a monologue, a comedy set or a story.
There are two rounds. In the first, you perform your first piece and I coach you on it: we might try a section a few different ways, then you perform it again. In the second round, the speed round, you perform your second piece with no feedback, just the room cheering you on. It’s how you learn to perform in front of an audience, in a safe space. A live musician — a pianist or guitarist — plays for singers, and is available to everyone else. Your audience is the other performers and any observers.
Singing a cover means bringing sheet music for the musician. Originals, backing tracks, rap, spoken word, and speeches each have their own options, and the MasterClass Prep Guide covers all of them, along with format and timing.
The MasterClass brings prepared work into a performance setting where material is observed, coached, and refined in real time.
Preparation has its limits. Skills strengthen through use, not isolation. The MasterClass is a structured environment where work is applied, feedback is integrated, and progress moves forward.
Real-world examples
For singers- Your first open mic, with a musician you have never played with.
- Singing at a wedding or a family event, where you get one go at it.
- An audition: your sheet music, a stranger at the piano, and go.
- A toast in front of everyone you know.
- A talk where the slides fail and you carry on without them.
- A pitch you have only ever practiced alone, delivered to people for the first time.
Who this is for
Kids 9+, teens and adults. You’re in the right place if you:
- Have your two pieces prepared and want to perform them with coaching as you go
- Perform in any format where your voice is central
- Want the experience of performing with a live musician
- Would rather watch first than perform, and learn from the coaching as it happens
- Are working toward something and want to try it in front of an audience beforehand
What it costs
Two ways to participate and two prices:
Performer — $225
You bring two pieces, perform them, and get coached on them in the moment.
Observer — $75
You attend without performing, and learn from watching the performances and the coaching that follows each one.
At times you may be invited to reflect, ask questions, or share observations.
Book an observer spotObserver spots are available where space allows. All participants must register in advance. For a performer under 18, one parent or guardian comes free and must attend. Additional observers must register separately.
