Why I Created the Performance Lab

Posted in

For a long time, I noticed something.

People were doing beautifully in private lessons.

They understood their material.
They were improving technically.
They were gaining awareness.

And then the moment they had to use their voice in front of someone else… everything shifted.

Not because they weren’t ready.
But because performing is different than practicing.

Private lessons are focused.
They’re personal.
They’re supportive.

But performing introduces something else:
Presence.
Energy.
Witnesses.

You cannot simulate that alone in a room.

And I didn’t want my students’ first real performance to be high-stakes.

I wanted something in between.

That’s why I created the Performance Lab.

It’s not a recital.
It’s not a showcase.
It’s not about being impressive.

It’s a working environment.

A small group.
In my home studio.
Up to four participants.
Everyone gets focused time.
Everyone learns from watching.

Some people bring a song.
Some bring a speech.
Some bring something half-finished.

That’s allowed.

The point isn’t polish.

The point is integration.

The Performance Lab gives you a place to:

  • try
  • adjust
  • feel the room
  • notice what shifts when others are present

Confidence doesn’t come from waiting until you’re “ready.”

It comes from repetition in real conditions.

That’s the gap the Performance Lab fills.

It’s quiet work.
But it’s powerful work.

The Performance Lab runs on the third Tuesday of each month.
